After several months of waiting, the Ford Kuga Hybrid Flexifuel, which can run on E85 bioethanol, is finally in the catalogue. And the good news is it’s not nearly as expensive as the “regular” hybrid version.
Ford had a thin nose when it decided to convert the previous generation Kuga, which was at the end of its life at the time, to E85 bioethanol. During the six months of its deployment, the Flexifuel version capable of running either SP 95 or E85 represented 95% of SUV sales. So it gives an idea. At the beginning of the year, the manufacturer decided that almost the entire series could benefit from such a variant: Fiesta, Puma, Focus and, of course, always Kuga. But one small difference compared to before is the hybrid version, this time about conversion to bioethanol, not a “classic” petrol version. Very simple, a unique offer on the market.
A very reasonable cost
And it’s relatively accessible, because the Kuga Hybrid Flexifuel costs only €300 more than the simple hybrid version with a similar finish. The additional cost will be amortized from the first year. because it is estimated that the fuel budget is reduced by around €600 each year with an E85 fuel vehicle (Source: La Collective du bioethanol). Knowing that a liter of superethanol costs an average of €0.67 and the fuel tank of the Kuga hybrid is 45l, very simply, you wouldn’t pay more than €30 for a full tank. Unless, of course, you decide to use SP 95 instead. Today, there are just over 1 out of 4 E85 offers and a total of 2,550 stations ideally distributed throughout France, you should be able to find one nearby without too much hassle.
Note that even if consumption would logically increase, the Kuga hybrid is a good student (7.1 l/100 km on average and even just 6.2 l/100 km in the city), which is a good start. To summarize, the Kuga Hybrid Flexifuel is cheap fuel, not overpriced and an engine that needs to be efficient, this needs to be confirmed. Ingredients for future bestsellers?
