The new Ford Mondeo, which has already appeared with leaks in November 2021, has been officially introduced this time in China.
Will it come to Europe? We still don’t know, but one thing is for sure: the Ford Mondeo sedan is official in China. The design of the new generation of the American sedan is no longer a secret Since November 2021, China’s Ministry of Industry had released some photos before the official presentation. This time, however, Ford is revealing its Chinese Mondeo in a bit more detail. The model was unveiled at the new design center in Shanghai, China, on January 17.
Not surprisingly, the Mondeo sedan shares many elements with the previously presented Evos crossover. It adopts the same front face with a large grille covered with very thin optics. In terms of size, it is 6 cm longer and 2 cm wider than the previous generation. The profile is fluid with retractable handles and hollow sides. The rather drooping roof is reminiscent of coupe-like sedans like the Peugeot 508 or Volkswagen Arteon. It’s relatively low, descending with a pleasant slope towards the trunk. We also noticed a two-tone black and gray configuration for the presentation copy. Finally, at the rear, a thin black stripe connects the two lights with three vertical claws, which have a light signature close to that of a Mustang Mach-E or Peugeot 508. The entire Mondeo logo is placed between the light strip and the license plate.
Interior and engines still hidden
Ford did not see fit to unveil the interior of the new Mondeo, so it will still have to wait. The passenger compartment can take the design of Evos with its large screen surface, placed on the entire dashboard. The engines are also currently unknown. Only the hidden “Ecoboost 245” badge on the trunk evokes the potential power of the four-cylinder 2.0 petrol engine sold in China.
This new Ford Mondeo will be manufactured by Changan Ford. The first copies will be delivered to Chinese customers in 2022. The American brand has not disclosed any possible European Mondeo plans for now. or potential replacement for the Evos crossover that could succeed with us.
